Pê de Pai (D for Dad) by Isabel Minhós Martins & Bernardo Carvalho

Pê de Pai (D for Dad) by Isabel Minhós Martins & Bernardo Carvalho

I bought this lovely book some years ago in a local book fair while visiting a small town in Portugal. With Father’s Day approaching, I remembered this beauty recently.

It’s by the authors Isabel Minhós Martins & Bernardo Carvalho, published by Planeta Tangerina. It’s all in Portuguese and and I couldn’t find a copy available on Amazon. Strange that such a nice book is not published widely. I only found another book –  ‘Cuore di Mamma’ – by the same authors in Portuguese. Anyway, I took some photos to share with you – enjoy!

Dad Coat, Dad Airplane

Dad Sofa, Dad Engine

The text is very simple and you can just guess most of them easily without even knowing any Portuguese.

The title was tricky. You can figure out that ‘Pai’ is father, but I didn’t get straight away what Pê de Pai means. After very confusing translations from google  ‘Foot of Father’ or ‘Peach Father’, I finally realised it just means letter P of ‘Pai’, so it would be ‘D for Dad’. It seems obvious now, doesn’t it!

This dad can be anything a little child needs or wants – Dad airplane, Dad sofa, Dad doctor, Dad tractor, Dad ambulance, Dad ladder … Beautiful and simple concept, beautifully and simply illustrated.

  1. I am Brazilian and I’m very surprised and flattered to see a book in my language here! I’m a fan of the site and now I can say I love it even more! If you need any help translating Portuguese, count on me!

  2. I just purchased this book for my brother-n-law… his two boys are going to love it. What a beautiful book!

  3. What a wonderful world this of bloggers and their superb findings. I just came across a book in Portuguese in a non-Portuguese speaking site. Loved it and ran to search for it online. Fortunately Cosac Naify publishers had released this book in Brazil and I just purchased one from their online shop. I’ll give it to my son to read and offer as heart gift to his dad, whom he adores. You have a great eye and touch for all things beautiful. Congratulations!
