Trash Trophies

The next time you are about to throw an empty bottle into the trash, stop, it could live another life as an incredible creature to adorn your wall.

Artist Carolien Adriaansche has spent years collecting the sort of junk that other people just throw away. This assortment of trash is catalogued in her studio according to form and colour before being given another life as one of her delightful creations.

After a visit to the Natural History Museum in Rotterdam in the early 90’s, her love of animals and her junk collection came together to become new creatures cleverly built from trash.

Unlike the natural history displays from which she was inspired, Carolien does not create a regular natural habitat for her creatures but instead builds them a home out of garbage. Garbage afterall is one of the key causes of the loss of bio-diversity on earth.
