10 fruits to make
The download includes templates for an apple, pear, banana, pineapple, kiwi, lemon, watermelon, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry — a full fruit bowl's worth of paper crafting.
How to make 3D paper fruit
Print and cut out the templates, then score all the dotted fold lines firmly with an empty ballpoint pen — this gives you clean, crisp folds. Fold along each scored line and glue the tabs together to build the 3D shape.
The trickiest part is closing the final tab. To make it easier, fold these last tabs outward so you can press against them from outside. Apply plenty of glue on both the tab and the corresponding surface, then press the two sides together and hold until set. With glue on both surfaces they bond quickly.
Heavier cardstock gives the finished fruit more solidity and makes it more durable for play — regular printer paper works too but is a bit soft for play kitchen use.
Display and play ideas
A full set makes a lovely display in a play kitchen or grocery stand. They also make colourful room decorations — hang them from a mobile or arrange them in a bowl. Children can sort them by colour, count them, or use them in imaginative play.
